Lararium

/ lārārium / — the household shrine where the protective spirits were kept

A personal AI agent that lives at your hearth and rides in your pocket. It remembers everything, works while you sleep, and answers on any screen you carry — your machine, your models, your keys.

Two thousand years ago, every Roman house had a lararium — a small shrine by the door where the family kept its penates, the spirits that guarded the home, its memories, and its continuities. When Troy burned, Aeneas's hands were too new from slaughter to touch the gods — so old Anchises held the penates fast and rode out through the flames on his son's shoulders. A home is where its penates are.

Your digital life now needs the same. One place that holds your agent's memory, its credentials, its voice and habits — portable, guarded, and unmistakably yours. The commercial clouds are burning. Carry yours out.

The hearth burns on your own hardware — a box under the stairs, a NAS, a used mini-PC. But you don't live there. Lararium reaches you wherever you already are: a tap from your home screen, a thread in WhatsApp, Telegram, or Signal, plain SMS when that's all there is.

One agent, one memory, every device. Ask it something on your phone at the store and the answer is waiting in the same conversation at your desk. When it needs your blessing — spend, send, delete — the approval card lands on the screen you're holding. Android builds go further: your phone's own contacts, calls, and texts, gated door by door.

Your fire
Point it at your own llama.cpp on your own silicon, or bring an API key for any cloud — Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter. No lock-in, no hidden routing, no silent downgrades.
Your memory
Everything your agent knows lives in plain files you can read, edit, and own. The conversation window is scratch paper; the shrine is forever. Export your whole life with one tar.
Your keys
Credentials are vaulted and never shown to the agent itself — the network layer swaps them in, policy-checked, on the way out. A hijacked prompt cannot steal what the agent never held.
Your doors
Mail, calendar, messages, browser, shell, and any API you hand it — each door with its own rule: open, knock first, or sealed. Every action lands in a log only you can read.
Always lit
Morning briefings, price watches, inbox triage, chores on a schedule, goals across days. A hearth is only worth having if it stays lit.

The shrine keeps the penates. Lararium keeps your agent.
